Stress is one of the biggest robbers of joy and health. Often it can seem as though stressful circumstances are out of our control, and grasping to try and control the uncontrollable simply brings about more overwhelm. Stress reduction is not about controlling outer circumstances, it is about developing skills to modulate our internal physical, mental and emotional responses to whatever life throws our way. 

 

Physically, when we learn how to build a strong nervous system, we reduce the amount of stress hormones our body releases under tension, saving ourselves from harmful, cell-oxidizing inflammation. 

 

Mentally, we can learn how to master perspective shifts and become solution-oriented and optimistic.

 

Emotionally, by learning how to truly feel and healthily express the full range of human emotions, including fear, sadness and anger, we empower ourselves to become the owners of our emotions, instead of stifling them or letting them run us.
